Openclaw and Accelerating AI Universe
The last little while in my life has been sort of amazing. I am nowhere near as young as I wish I was, and it is pretty overwhelming to see how quickly technology is moving along these days. Honestly, as an old school digital creator (webmaster is so passe now) I find myself sort of chuckling as I write this because of the weird place this is at. Blogging / wordpress sites still sort of dominate the web, but they are quickly becoming as old fashioned as MySpace pages and friends on Facebook. Some of the events of even the last few months have completely blown me away and left me hungry for more, no more so than the arrival of Openclaw.
Part of my real world job this day is to keep a solid eye on technology and look for things that could apply within our business world. I work for a regional service delivery end point that is part of one of the largest companies in that industry worldwide. While constrained a lot by corporate culture we will work to try to get ahead and apply technology as we can. One of the side benefits is whenever there is a big technology conference or trade show, I can always try to get company time to go visit and take notes.
One of those hot topics is of course AI. Leaders in our company are always looking for ways to automate repetitive tasks and to turn paperwork into digital work. So I get to see some of the latest technology, some of it is pretty amazing. Over the last couple of years, things like facial recognition and tag based staff tracking have been big features of the technology shows. However, many of those technologies are already becoming sort of out of date or purely accepts, and the most recent steps have all been in generative AI and LLMs (Large language models) like ChatGPT and similar. Our world has already change dramatically as a result of these thing.
However, the latest thing, as it were, is a mind blower and is getting insane levels of support. Openclaw is a little hard to explain, so like any good modern digital creator, I went off to ask ChatGPT 5.2 to explain it in one paragraph:
OpenClaw is an open-source AI agent framework designed to automate complex computer tasks by interacting directly with graphical user interfaces (GUIs), much like a human user would. It combines large language models with vision capabilities to interpret what’s on the screen, make decisions, and execute actions such as clicking, typing, and navigating applications. The goal of OpenClaw is to provide a transparent and customizable alternative to proprietary computer-use agents, enabling researchers and developers to experiment with, evaluate, and improve AI systems that can operate software autonomously. By being open-source, it encourages community contributions, reproducibility, and innovation in the development of general-purpose AI assistants.
The uptake on this has been insane, the near vertical scale of interest and uptake on this is insane, literally getting all of the attention that generative AI took a few years to get and doing it only a couple of months. This is the most widely supported anything on Github. It is just massive overnight. I can’t miss out, so I am looking at how I want to try to add this thing into my life. It’s not simple, but we will see I guess.
I will certainly follow up with more posting about this once I know what it can do. Ain’t the future fun?
